Students with interest in East Asia can pursue three main MA tracks, each tailored for different academic and professional goals. Please open the description of each degree for more information:
- MA in International and Regional Studies
- Note: this flexible degree will offer students the opportunity to focus on East Asia as a regional track.
- MA in Chinese or Japanese
- Note: this track is more specialized relative to the more general MA in East Asian studies and has higher language requirements. Most of your coursework will focus specifically on China/Chinese language or Japan/Japanese language.
- MA in Language Pedagogy (Chinese, Japanese, or Korean)
- Note: this track is primarily for students who wish to become language instructors.
Students interested in East Asian Studies should apply to the MA/MS in International Studies on the Fall 2026 application and indicate your regional interest. Applicants for Fall 2027 and beyond will be able to select the MA/MS in International and Regional Studies. For any questions, please contact Carissa Garletts, our Director of Admissions, at hlsgrad@iu.edu.
