- For students interested in the Chinese language and Taiwanese culture, the Taiwan Huayu BEST Study Abroad Program at National Taiwan University (NTU) offers quarter-basis programs. Students participating in the program receive a monthly scholarship during their participation in the program. The scholarship will cover some of the students’ living expenses during their studies at NTU, and students will be responsible for other expenses, including but not limited to airfare and tuition fees.
- While at NTU, students may also choose to enroll in other NTU subject courses simultaneously as they pursue studies in Mandarin language courses (Students may take NTU subject courses, application for two or more quarters is needed and meet with NTU's spring or fall schedule. Students will be responsible for additional course fees).
- Students will choose from two distinguished Mandarin language programs at NTU and apply for one that they believe best suits their goals in language learning, and students will receive an official NTU transcript:
- Chinese Language Division (CLD) of Language Center: CLD offers courses based on the Chinese proficiency level of each student. Each class is composed of about 5 to 7 people to ensure that each student improves greatly in listening, speaking, reading, and writing throughout the class. Each quarter for 10-12 weeks, with 3 hours per day, 15 hours per week (from Monday to Friday). In one quarter, students can expect to complete 150-180 class hours, for which CLD would recommend 10 - 12 credits at completion. http://cld.liberal.ntu.edu.tw/en/index.html
- International Chinese Language Program (ICLP): ICLP is an immersive Chinese language program specializing in intensive, one-on-one, and small classes (3-4 people) with more than 100 courses for students of all levels. ICLP offers courses based on the student’s level of proficiency. Each quarter for 9-11 weeks, with 4 hours per day, 20 hours per week (from Monday to Friday). In one quarter, students can expect to complete 180–220 class hours, for which ICLP would recommend 12 credits at completion. https://iclp.ntu.edu.tw/
- “Hands Together” initiative: In addition to the language courses, students will have the opportunity to participate in an extra-curricular activity, where they partner with NTU students to visit primary or junior high schools to tutor them in English.
