Minor Programs

The EALC minor requirements have changed for students entering IU in Summer 2013 or later. Please see the appropriate requirements below.

Minor in East Asian Languages for students who entered IU Summer 2013 or later
Students may minor in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean language. A minimum of 15 credit hours in the chosen language is required, at least 9 of which must be at the 300–400 level. Course work must include a minimum of 14 credit hours in the chosen language or culture courses, including the completion of the third year and at least 1–3 additional credit hours in language or culture courses. At least 6 credit hours of language study must be completed in this department (excluding special credit); the remaining credit hours may be earned either by taking course work or by meeting the requirements for special credit.

Minor in East Asian Languages for students who entered IU prior to Summer 2013
Students must complete 15 credit hours or more in Chinese, Japanese, or Korean Language through the third year (302). At least 6 of the 15 credit hours must be completed in the EALC department; the remaining credit hours may be earned either through taking course work or by meeting the requirements for special credit. Culture courses may NOT count toward the language minor.

Minor in East Asian Studies for students who entered IU Summer 2013 or later
Students must complete 15 credit hours chosen from courses taught in the department or cross-listed under East Asian Languages and Cultures culture courses. Language course and courses at the 100 level may NOT count toward the East Asian Studies Minor. At least 9 credit hours taken toward the minor must be at the 300–400 level.

Minor in East Asian Studies for students who entered IU prior to Summer 2013
Students must complete 15 credit hours chosen from courses taught in the department or cross-listed under East Asian Languages and Cultures culture courses. Language course and courses at the 100 level may NOT count toward the East Asian Studies Minor. At least 6 credit hours taken toward the minor must be at the 300-400 level.

**Students may only minor in ONE of the two minors and cannot receive both a major and minor inside the EALC Department.
